Christmas

Christmas was so fun at my house! Christmas Eve we had our awesome traditions. The Leder's came over, and my grandpa read How The Grinch Stole Christmas for us. Then we read Luke 2 out of the Bible. It's always fun when Grandpa reads The Grinch to us. He's got the BEST reading voice EVER!! After we read, Mom had us open a present: footy pajamas!! Awesome! :)

Hannah and Justin were here for Christmas, and I really enjoyed that time with them.
The five of us (whoa that's weird to say) woke up around 6:00 on Christmas morning after staying up really late playing games, and we made breakfast for everyone. Around 7, we woke our parents and grandparents up, and we all enjoyed french toast and fresh fruit salad. After that, we opened our presents.
Mom and David had to go to the Cancer Care Alliance for antibiotics about noon-ish. I went over to the Mallory's for Tyler's Christmas phone call! Yes! Please!!
Hearing his voice was so wonderful. It was exactly what I needed! He told me he got permission to call my dad, so after we talked, I hurried home so that he could use my phone to call David. After he talked to David, I got a few more minutes with him, and he told me he feels so much better about everything going on after hearing it from my dad's mouth. He told me all about the people in the area he's serving, the famous people that live in the surrounding town, and how he's excited for the next few months. I can't believe that the next time I talk to him, he'll be home three weeks later!
The next day I got his package in the mail! :) He sent me some awesome DVDs he won in a white elephant thing (he says they're to add to our DVD collection) and a hat that he knitted. Yes, you read that correctly. Tyler knitted a hat. And it's freaking sweet! It also came with a great letter.
This Christmas, by far, was the best Christmas I've had so far!

Life as of late

Life? I really love mine! That's not sarcasm, either. Honestly it's been really hard. By the time I had come to terms with my dad and the fact that he's going to pass shortly, we got a phone call saying that my 36 year old uncle had died suddenly. It took almost a week for it to really sink in because I had talked to him for my birthday two days prior. I realized that Uncle Josh is in a much better place, and that he'll be able to accept the gospel without any barriers that blocked him here. It's nice knowing he's able to do that now, even though I really miss him.

I'm almost done with my externship, so that's great. I really love it! I'm glad I'll be able to have a job, even if it's only on-call for a while.

Recently I got to go with a group of missionaries and my friends Erin and Stan for the missionaries' cultural day. :) They get one for their entire mission. One guess where we went. You betcha we went to the Harry Potter Exhibition at the Pacific Science Center!!! It was one of the best days of my life. :) I had so much fun with the group I was with. I mean, I'm already pretty great friends with five of the eight I went with, so that made it even more fun! Collectively we took about 200 pictures. Here are just a few of them!

Yep. We're best friends :)

We met Harry Potter ;)

Let's be real: I have no idea what Elder Moody's doing here.Best friends

Aaaand the shot that explains the personalities exactly

It was sooooo cold!

Elder Bunton, Elder Bottoma, Erin, and I decided to be little people.

End of the adventure.

Ready?

No. I'm really not ready.

My dad's dying. And there's nothing we can do.

I just

need to talk. It shouldn't be so hard, but I can't seem to do it.

Time

I didn't realize until this week how fast time has really flown. Today I talked to a friend who served his mission out here. He's been home for about three years. Um, hello! When did that happen? That's crazy. Then! Two weeks from now, I start my externship at MultiCare in Covington. ONE mile from my house! Holla! :) I'm extremely excited about starting to really get out there in the medical field, but the closer it gets, the more scared I'm becoming. I know this is what I'm supposed to be doing, though, and the Lord will help me do my very best!
Hannah pointed out that Logan's one year mark is coming up in November. That's incredibly exciting for her, and I'm thrilled! Tyler's been out for fifteen and a half months now. What?! Tell me when that happened, please! By the time I register that he's been gone that long, two years will have hit and he'll be home again. Let's be real -- some days it's still hard, and I wonder if I'm going to remember the way he sounds when he laughs, or if his arms are still going to hold me as tight as they used to. Most of the time, though, I remember how all of that really is, and I remember why I'm doing this. :)
Thanks, Hannah, for the AWESOME countdown you started!! :D

I'm Just Sayin'

...I have the best friends in the WORLD!! I'm so grateful for them.

Courtney --
She's been there through thick and thin with me. I'm so thankful for the fact that I've had someone to turn to when I have something awesome to tell, or when I haven't had the greatest day. Or when I'm in the mood to get into some really deep discussion about church or the temple. :) I'm WAY excited for her, because she gets to go back to the 'Burg to attend BYU-I. :) Good luck! Oh, and she's a master bug-killer, too. ;)

Erin --
Yup. She's pretty much great! It's so wonderful having someone to go to missionary lessons to, and to laugh about absolutely everything with. Not to mention some freaking fun games with a deck of cards! :) Aaaaand card-making. And Will Ferrell marathons. :)

Elder Waite --
It's so too bad that he can't watch The Office with Erin and me! We talked about it last night, and he was laughing so hard trying to describe something from an episode. :) Elder Waite cracks me up. It's so great to have someone who likes to check in on me, or is there to give me a blessing, um, whenever. :)

Elder Bunton --
Dear man, you are so hilarious. :) I like when he comes over and plays the guitar after a lesson! He's super talented!! He always has a wonderful spirit when he teaches a lesson, and he's right there with Elder Waite in just checking in. It's cool because they are best friends, and it's funny to watch them. Especially when a bird is involved. Haha.

Aaaaaaannnnnnddddd.....

Tyler --
I'm pretty much in love with him! Need I say more?? :) He's always the one to be there and be the best. Always has been, always will be. :)

Bunton, Waite, and a blessing

Lately there's been so much going on that things have been absolutely crazy around my house! My dad's chemo, unfortunately, has been kicking his butt; he's been sicker than I've ever seen anyone. My mom's life is on hold until he's better, which is the way I think it should be, because she's taking care of her life by taking care of him. Hannah's going back to BYU on Wednesday. I'm so excited for her because she loves it there! I feel like I've just existed lately. To be honest, I've not been the happiest person lately, but I definitely know that's something I control. I'm a much happier person when I'm out doing things like school rather than sitting at home. Break's almost done, and I'm actually sighing for relief! :)

I've gotta say I'm SO thankful for missionaries. I'll bet you think I'm going into something about Tyler now, right? Nope! Elder Bunton and Elder Waite are pretty much the greatest missionaries to serve in our area ever. Sorry guys. One of my closest friends, Erin, and I went to a baptism along with her friend Michaela yesterday. After the baptism, Elder Bunton gave me a blessing. Um, can I just say that my testimony of the power of the priesthood and blessings was strengthened at least tenfold?! I mean, blessings are absolutely miracles. I love Elder Bunton and Elder Waite; they are people I consider to be good friends. With that being said, it's not like I sit down and pour out everything that's going on in my life to them. I don't even remember telling him that my dad was going through chemo, and I for sure know that I didn't tell him what was on my mind or anything like that. The words spoken in my blessing were powerful, and I am so grateful that he was ready at that moment to give me that spiritual boost. Heavenly Father knows who we are, and exactly what we need. There's no way that Elder Bunton knew what I needed to hear or what was in my heart. Man!! Our missionaries are the best!!!

Definitely I cannot wait to go grocery shopping for Elder Waite's muffins tomorrow. "You know, the ones with like, 1,200 calories each" from Costco. :) Those guys crack me up.

Dear California

If you haven't heard the news, been online, or seen what's going on, you've obviously been hiding under a turtle shell or living in a hut with no civilization around you.

Today, a California judge overturned Proposition 8 and made gay marriage legal in that state. Okay.....so.....let's think that we have more power because we wear a stupid robe and have a gavel. The voters in California passed Proposition 8 with 52%. People didn't want gay marriage in that state. Yes, they are people, but marriage is between a woman and a man.
The Family: A Proclamation to the World -- an statement issued by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1995 -- stated the following:

"The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity."

Marriage between a man and a woman is ESSENTIAL to the Plan of Happiness -- also known as the Plan of Salvation. Heavenly Father didn't intend for people of the same sex to be together as a couple.

We live in a wicked, wicked world where the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman has been lessened by the temptations and persuasions of Satan. The scarier thing is that the world is going to get even more wicked before it gets better. There aren't really too many things that I will stand completely firm in, but this is one of them. Same sex marriage is wrong -- there's absolutely NO other way.

I am not saying that homosexual people are not American, and that they're not people. I'm saying that marriage is a sacred, beautiful covenant. I have friends that have chosen that kind of lifestyle; I love them, but will not support the way they live their lives.

Lucky

To sum it up, this is how I feel about my relationship with Tyler.

I'm pretty darn lucky to have fallen in love with my absolute best friend!

Life with him couldn't get any better. :)

"Do you hear me,
I'm talking to you

Across the water across the deep blue ocean
Under the open sky, oh my, baby I'm trying

Boy I hear you in my dreams
I feel your whisper across the sea

I keep you with me in my heart
You make it easier when life gets hard

I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been

Lucky to be coming home again
Ooohh ooooh oooh oooh ooh ooh

They don't know how long it takes

Waiting for a love like this
Every time we say goodbye
I wish we had one more kiss

I'll wait for you I promise you, I will

I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
Lucky we're in love every way

Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday

And so I'm sailing through the sea
To an island where we'll meet
You'll hear the music fill the air
I'll put a flower in your hair

Though the breezes through trees
Move so pretty you're all I see
As the world keeps spinning round
You hold me right here right now

I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again

I'm lucky we're in love every way
Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed

Lucky to be coming home someday"

I love you, Tyler Scott Mallory!

Hello August!

What the what??
When did August get here?
Just sayin'.
I'm definitely not complaining about how fast this year has gone so far. By the time I know it, Tyler will be home again! It's weird how you keep track of time in monthly increments when you have a missionary out in the field. I think school helps a lot, too, because I'm always busy. I love when I have free time now! :)

August is going to be a good month.
We have our graduation ceremony this month, even though we technically don't graduate until November. They only do it once a year.
My cousin, Amanda, is coming to visit for a few days! I haven't seen her for over two years, and even then I only saw her for a little bit.
I have a two week vacation from school before I start my final quarter.
My last quarter of school starts on the 29th.
Tyler comes home in nine months on the 27th. :)

Yep. It's going to be a great month.

Right now? I may kill my youngest sister for being a butt head.

I think my expectations for tonight were too high or something.

Or things haven't changed.

First Article. Opinions?

Hey all. Before I send this to Lyndsey to post, I need some opinions!

Here it is!!

As MG’s we know that waiting is hard better than anyone. We have all the “what if” questions running through our heads – “What if he feels differently about me when he comes home?” “What if I meet another guy and he ends up being the one?” Those are scary thoughts, right? What could be a scarier thought than that? Let me give you one word: dating. As if dating wasn’t scary enough with the having to get to know the person better, having that awkward date where nothing goes right, or even having that amazing date and going home with butterflies in your stomach, we add the element of already being in a relationship. Personally, it’s hard to date because I know that the man I’m out with isn’t Elder Mallory; however, I WANT to go out on dates! How many of us find ourselves in that situation? In a BYU campus debate article, Jen Schofield, a senior from Provo, said, “Some guys would never ask me out since I had a missionary.” So guess what? Ask THEM out! That’s how I got my first date since he’s been gone.
Around the year mark, I got tired of sitting around not going out on dates. Going out on dates might not be for everyone. It’s a personal choice whether you want to date other people while your missionary is serving. It’s suggested, though, that we do get out there and date. If your missionary is the first person you’ve ever dated, it’s highly encouraged you date. Dating other people can show you how much your missionary means to you. Dating other people helps me become closer to my guy friends; it helps me make new friends. Going on a date with someone isn’t a marriage commitment. In general, you date to find the type of person you want to marry. Not only that, when you date, you find the kind of spouse you want to be for your eternal companion.
I’ve made a challenge for myself, and I extend it to you, whether you’re an MG or an MM – missionary’s man. I’m going to go on one date a month until Elder Mallory comes home, with the intention of strengthening my friendships, growing, as well as strengthening my relationship with my missionary. Remember – dating is not bad. Stay strong, be happy, and remember your missionary! Things will work out the way they’re supposed to.

Help!!!

So there's a website for girls waiting for missionaries. It's a forum where we're all able to help each other or brag about our missionaries. It's actually REALLY helpful, so a big thanks to Kaitlyn for showing it to me!

Here's where I need help. They've started an online magazine, and I've been chosen to write the Dating While Waiting article on a monthly basis.

I need some SUPER awesome ideas, if you all wouldn't mind putting your two cents in! Thanks! :)

What a Great Week!!! :)

Last week was excellent!
FHE on Monday was a ton of fun! It was a ward bbq at the Jones' house. It was great to see Scott and Emily. I should get over there to see Sandy soon.
Tuesday -- school started again. It was pretty cool. It's nice to be done with the busiest quarter and into a quarter with only two classes! :) I'm diggin' that one.
Wednesday -- started going to institute. It's great! Why the HECK did I not do that sooner??
Thursday -- watched the youth of the Kent Stake perform their dress rehearsal for their big show they were putting on. I'm going to quote my friend George and say, "I stand all amazed at the talent of the youth of the Kent Stake."
Friday -- hung out with Courtney. It was great! Grilled bratwursts, got ice cream from Coldstone, had a fire in the backyard burning our papers from last quarter, washed the dogs and three cars! Then we watched While You Were Sleeping. I LOVE that movie! It's super cute.
Saturday -- volunteered at the dragon boat races at Lake Meridian with the ward. It was tons of fun! :D I'm game for doing that every year now. My friend Eric got to row in one of the races because the team was missing a rower. It was pretty cool! Trevor and Suzi brought the kids over. It was the first time I had ever met Anna and Ian, which was great! Anna doesn't talk much, but she talked plenty to me! And Ian? He came to play with us with no problems. Haha. Ella and Grant are so funny! :) I love those kids a lot. That night, Hannah and I went to George's with a bunch of other people. We grilled kabobs and pineapple over a fire. Erin roasted us some starbursts. :) Yum! Andrew taught me the basic steps of the tango. I'm looking forward to getting better at that one. The tango is something I've always wanted to learn, though I'm not entirely a fan of Latin dancing in general. :) Anyway, it was definitely a great week.
I can't wait for this weekend! I have my first date in over a year.
Don't freak out -- I'm still waiting for and devoted to Tyler. I should be going on dates, though. I know that won't make sense to some people, but it does to me. He's happy that I'm going to do that, and I feel good about it. :) We're going to Seattle with sixteen other people for a picture scavenger hunt. I'm way excited!!!

I've Been Here Before

Monday, my parents sat us down to inform us that our dad has cancer. Again.

It felt like deja vu; we've been down this road before. Good news? It's not lymphoma. Bad news? It's leukemia, and thirty percent of the cells in his blood stream are cancer cells. It came on within the last month and a half, so it's classified as AML. He has a series of treatments in the hospital next week, where he'll be staying for about ten days. Roughly a week after that, he'll be tested for the number of blood cells in his system, and how many cancer cells there are. If everything looks as good as it can, he's going to have another stem cell transplant. Yep, I've definitely been here before. He got a blessing from Doug, Bevin, and MacKay on Monday night. I got one, too, from Eric.

What we're supposed to learn from this, I don't know. I just want him to be cancer free again.

"Oh, The Places You'll Go!"

With Kathryn graduating today, I've been reflecting on my own graduation two years ago. I cannot believe it's been two years already!

June 14, 2008:
With the rest of the graduating class, one of my best friends in the world, Madison DeGidio, and I walked to Pomp and Circumstance to our seats, beginning our commencement into the real world. I don't remember who our classmates were that spoke or what they said. To be honest, the only things I do remember about graduation are that Shannon (our security guard) was one of our speakers. He was everyone's favorite! The choir sang Omni a Sol -- it was Mr. McKee's gift to us because it was his last year as a teacher at Kentwood High School. Mr. Hostetter did the Soulja Boy dance on stage in front of all the families. Yikes? And then we graduated. The best part? Two of them. Throwing our caps into the air, and knowing we were finally done with high school!

Two years later, I'm going to the Showare Center in Kent to watch my little sister start her life in the real world. It feels like so much has changed. I'm going to school to be a medical assistant. I'm waiting for a missionary. Um, hello! Two years ago I would not have thought that I would be waiting for Tyler as he served in the California San Fernando mission. I'm a member of the single's ward -- something I drug my feet about -- and I love it! My life is very different from what I imagined it was going to be, but I couldn't have asked for a better one.

Congratulations, Kathryn Jane Bush! I am so proud of you. <3

Busy Weekend Ahead

So I have this super busy weekend ahead -- two papers, a chapter of terminology, and not to mention Kathryn graduates tomorrow! I went to hang out with Courtney tonight, but I was there for literally three minutes because I felt like I was going to puke. I decided to go home.

I can't be sick this weekend!!! I don't want to miss my sister's graduation! It seems like every time something important is happening, I get the stomach flu. It all started back a few years ago when Sarah and Bj got married. I missed their reception -- sick. Then more recently, Bret and Natalie came for dinner while they were up here last November-December-ish. It was the first time Natalie had ever been here and had dinner with our family. What happens? Stomach flu. Thank goodness for an amazing, fairly new sister-in-law who still came up to visit me. I'm telling ya -- Natalie is the greatest. :) And now when my grandparents are here and Kathryn graduates tomorrow, I come down with the flu. Thanks to some of my classmates who have learned that sharing is caring, I'm going to spend the day in bed tomorrow. Lame. Oh well, it could be so much worse. Even though I seriously have a fear of vomiting/vomit itself, I'm glad it's ONLY the stomach flu.

Hello

This is a seriously helpful website for us girls that are waiting for our men. :) Anyway, they're saying that it's "Love song month" this month, so I've been listening to cute songs that I really like. I'm super into Glee right now, and this season, they've had lots of good love songs. Today is "Hello" by Lionel Richie, but I like the Glee one better.

I've been alone with you inside my mind
And in my dreams I've kissed your lips a thousand times
I sometimes see you pass outside my door
Hello, is it me you're looking for?

I can see it in your eyes
I can see it in your smile
You're all I've ever wanted, (and) my arms are open wide
'Cause you know just what to say
And you know just what to do
And I want to tell you so much, I love you ...

I long to see the sunlight in your hair
And tell you time and time again how much I care
Sometimes I feel my heart will overflow
Hello, I've just got to let you know

'Cause I wonder where you are
And I wonder what you do
Are you somewhere feeling lonely, or is someone loving you?
Tell me how to win your heart
For I haven't got a clue
But let me start by saying, I love you ...

Hello, is it me you're looking for?
'Cause I wonder where you are
And I wonder what you do
Are you somewhere feeling lonely or is someone loving you?
Tell me how to win your heart
For I haven't got a clue
But let me start by saying ... I love you

Smack the Cracker

Yes, you read that right. Last night at FHE we played a game called Smack the Cracker! :) It was SO fun!
You take a cracker, thread some floss through it, roll up a magazine/newspaper, and commence hitting people's crackers. We had seventeen people playing last night at the Bishop's house out in his cul-de-sac. We'd been playing this game for about twenty-five-ish minutes, and the majority of the people were out. I was THRILLED when Garett got out, because he hits for strength -- not just to smack your cracker! :P It was great, though. By this point, I'd been beaten a ton. Haha. Hannah and I tried protecting each other, but eventually it stopped working. I was ganged up on by Garett and Eric -- both of whom had just a small amount of their crackers remaining; mine was nearly whole still, thank you very much!! Some of the people who'd been out for a great deal of time by now came in and called themselves "clean-up crew". It came down to Eric and me. It was really intense. Both of our crackers were tied to our belt loops. The clean-up crew decided they were cool and became our "border", and would try to smash our crackers whenever we got close. Guess who won? That's right -- ME! :D It was great!!! Eric and I both came out of that game with bruises from beating each other.
We're going to have a rematch at some point, though.
I'm planning on kicking his butt again.

[Random thought: I noticed that Smack the Cracker is the only game where you smack the opposite sex on the rear because it's a complete accident. I can't tell you how many times I got smacked!]

Tony and Louise

Tyler's been in Rosamond since right before Christmas. If you're keeping track, that's six months he's been there. That seems like a long time for a missionary to be in one area!

He LOVES the people there. He's got one couple in particular who he really loves: Tony and Louise. Tony and I recently became friends through facebook, and have been communicating a little bit at a time. For the past few months (maybe two), I've had really strong impressions to write them and thank them for taking care of Tyler and his companion (who also added me on facebook. weird.). I did just that, also expressing my gratitude to them for loving him and giving him a home away from home. I thought they would think I was crazy -- I'm some girl who they don't know writing them a letter. Turns out they loved it. Tony said they haven't received a handwritten letter for a while. I thought I sounded like an idiot when I was writing it. Guess not. Anyway, Tony says that they're nobody special. I disagree wholeheartedly. It takes a lot to join the church and give up habits you've had for years. I personally wouldn't know this, but I've seen people go through it, and can only imagine what it must feel like for them. Not only that, they're taking care of my future.

They must think I'm crazy for wanting to correspond with them -- but it's a feeling I have that I need to do, and I've learned not to ignore feelings like that! Someday I'm going to meet them. I can't wait until that happens!!!

Disgusting.

Okay, so I had to write this unbiased paper on late-term abortion. My opinion's going to come out now, so bear with it, please.

PUKE.

Do you have ANY idea what these people do? It's disgusting. It's murder. I canNOT believe that people would do something like that. We live in such a wicked world. At 24 weeks gestation, a baby is viable -- they could live outside of the womb with help for a few weeks, and could continue living a normal life after they're out of the hospital. Why someone would kill a baby is beyond me.

Writing that paper was horrible. I cried.

I'm going to be high risk every pregnancy I have, and Tyler and I want up to four kids. If we can't have four kids, adoption is an option.

For people like me, who might not be able to have more than one child, it's a blessing to be given even that. Heavenly Father BLESSES us and sends us HIS children to take care of, and to teach to live righteous lives. WHY THEN, would you KILL the body of one of the children he has trusted to you? Sick.

Friendship is...

So I was reading a friend's post about friendship today, and that got me contemplating about what friendship really is.
Dictionary.com defines friend as a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard.

Growing up, friendships come and go. People move, go to different schools, someone's lifestyle changes and you can't support them so you fade out, or just don't have that friend connection anymore. Growing up itself is pretty scary, but realizing you aren't going to be friends with some of the people for the rest of your life is scarier, I think. Working at the daycare, I found that little kids are really fickle about friendship. The Pre-K kids, girls especially, would be friends one day, and the next day dislike each other.
I don't think I really realized how valuable a friendship was until I moved to Washington. There have been lots of situations in the last eight years where friends have cycled through my life. You know how you can be immature when you're a teenager? Hey, it happens to all of us. During those moments, friends argue, and sometimes go their separate ways. I remember one specific argument about a particular boyfriend I was dating at the time, and I had one friend decide to just stop being my friend until I was out of that relationship. The other friend in that situation, though they didn't like him either, stayed. I'm not saying that choices like that make us bad friends, because they don't.
I really do know where I'm going with this, so bear with me. I tend to ramble sometimes.
Now that I'm an adult and some huge life-changing things are going to be happening in the next few years, I'm realizing more than ever that the friends I have are irreplaceable, and how much they mean to me. Take Courtney for instance -- Courtney and I have had our fall outs. There was a span of about two years that we didn't even talk. At the time, we didn't realize that we needed to grow as people and get to the point where we could be friends. She is one of the best friends I have in the world. I'm grateful to her for always being reliable, wonderful, and fun to be around. Ever seen Boy Meets World? I feel like Courtney and I are kind of like Cory and Shaun. She's the best friend anyone could ever ask for.
How about Tyler? Do YOU have someone that makes you happy no matter what you feel like? How about someone who makes you feel more loved than anyone else in the world? What about someone to laugh and joke with about anything? That's Tyler and me. We are comfortable together. Even on Mother's Day (when we talked on the phone) we were laughing and joking with each other. He's been gone for a year, and our relationship has grown so much!
Friends are wonderful. I don't know how you define your friends, but I would say keep them close, because they're in your life for a reason! :) Thanks to Dennis for really making me sit and think about how wonderful all of my friends are.

An Entire Year

Tyler's officially been gone for a whole year! I can't believe that I've made it this far. I mean, I can, but it honestly feels like he left yesterday. I was writing last night, and I sat and thought about all of this.

May 26th, 2009:
We said see you later for two years. It was really hard. We were both sobbing by the time I was driving away; I even had to pull to the side of the road. He called several more times before he was set apart. He left the next day.

One year ago

Now:
It seems like a ton has happened, but it really seems like he just left. I don't even know how to describe what all has happened. I wish that I could, because it's a TON! Life has been so great. Tyler and I write each other every week; it's fun that we haven't missed a week yet. Tomorrow should be my 52nd letter. :) Halfway there. The craziest part of this all is the fact that everyone says the second year goes faster! How on earth is that possible?? I'm looking forward to continuing to grow over the next year of my life so that I'm ready for the future.
Not the best picture, but the most recent. He's kind of a goof :)

One year! I think I'm going to go celebrate. :)

I give up!

This a picture a day thing ended up being pretty lame, so I don't want to do it anymore. :P

A Picture a Day 5/22/10

So if blogger works for me, these are two of my very favorite people in the entire world.
The Pack family is probably the most selfless family I've ever met. The love this family shares is practically tangible. They love God with all their hearts, and are truly centered around living lives pleasing unto Him. Nora and Olivia have such spunky, beautiful personalities. One can't help but to love these two little girls (excuse me, BIG girls now; they're five!) and their wonderful parents who instill in them the most priceless core values.
This is my picture for today. The Pack's are a blessing in my life.

I know I've done this today already...

and that it's technically a new day, but I haven't gone to sleep yet, so it's not "tomorrow" for me!!

I think I'm addicted to blogging a little bit.

It's really easy to just come and write down my thoughts...a whole lot easier than writing in my journal. Haha. ;) I should pick up on that.

A Picture a Day 5/21/10

This! Is my bird, Edward. Sometimes he's stupid, but he does make me happy.

A Picture a Day 5/20/10

Since today is Tyler's birthday, I thought I'd share a picture of him. I know that it's not recent, but that's because he hasn't sent his camera card home for a while now. I also know he can't read this, but still... :)
Happy 20th birthday, Tyler Scott Mallory!

A Picture a Day 5/19/2010

So last night, Kayden and Chi came over last night, and it was pretty funny. I think Kayden has hiliarious faces!!! This happens to be the classic face of Kayden Krupp.

A Picture a Day for the Rest of May

So I meant to be doing this thing all month, but with midterms and all of that junk, I just didn't get around to it. Lame excuse, I know.

The picture a day is a picture every day of something that makes me happy.

Today it's a picture of my nephew, Chi, showing his "best friend in the entire world" how much he loves her. :)

Safety for the Soul

So sitting in Relief Society today, we were talking about the scriptures. I was seriously zoning out (even though I really should not have been). During my zoning out session, I thought about the talk that Elder Holland gave in the October 2009 General Conference. I remember being taken aback by how firm he was in his testimony, and remembering how much it truly touched me. Listening to him gave me chills; his talk has been the only one to do so like that. After hearing his talk, I decided to be more diligent in my efforts to read The Book of Mormon. After finishing it for the first time in April, I too can stand and say that I know The Book of Mormon is true, and, like Elder Holland, I am going to stand firm in this testimony.

I wanted to share his talk. I know that it's long, but it is truly powerful and moving. If you choose to read it, awesome. Please don't shun it just because it is a talk from a General Authority if you aren't a member of the church. I encourage you to read it. I love this talk; it is perhaps one of my favorite ones ever given.

Safety for the Soul
Jeffery R. Holland
October 2009 General Conference

"Prophecies regarding the last days often refer to large-scale calamities such as earthquakes or famines or floods. These in turn may be linked to widespread economic or political upheavals of one kind or another.

But there is one kind of latter-day destruction that has always sounded to me more personal than public, more individual than collective—a warning, perhaps more applicable inside the Church than outside it. The Savior warned that in the last days even those of the covenant, the very elect, could be deceived by the enemy of truth. If we think of this as a form of spiritual destruction, it may cast light on another latter-day prophecy. Think of the heart as the figurative center of our faith, the poetic location of our loyalties and our values; then consider Jesus’s declaration that in the last days “men’s hearts [shall fail] them.”

The encouraging thing, of course, is that our Father in Heaven knows all of these latter-day dangers, these troubles of the heart and soul, and has given counsel and protections regarding them.

In light of that, it has always been significant to me that the Book of Mormon, one of the Lord’s powerful keystones in this counteroffensive against latter-day ills, begins with a great parable of life, an extended allegory of hope versus fear, of light versus darkness, of salvation versus destruction—an allegory of which Sister Ann M. Dibb spoke so movingly this morning.

In Lehi’s dream an already difficult journey gets more difficult when a mist of darkness arises, obscuring any view of the safe but narrow path his family and others are to follow. It is imperative to note that this mist of darkness descends on all the travelers—the faithful and the determined ones (the elect, we might even say) as well as the weaker and ungrounded ones. The principal point of the story is that the successful travelers resist all distractions, including the lure of forbidden paths and jeering taunts from the vain and proud who have taken those paths. The record says that the protected “did press their way forward, continually [and, I might add, tenaciously] holding fast” to a rod of iron that runs unfailingly along the course of the true path. However dark the night or the day, the rod marks the way of that solitary, redeeming trail.

“I beheld,” Nephi says later, “that the rod of iron . . . was the word of God, [leading] . . . to the tree of life; . . . a representation of the love of God.” Viewing this manifestation of God’s love, Nephi goes on to say:

“I looked and beheld the Redeemer of the world, . . . [who] went forth ministering unto the people. . . .

“ . . . And I beheld multitudes of people who were sick, and who were afflicted with all manner of diseases, and with devils and unclean spirits; . . . and they were healed by the power of the Lamb of God; and the devils and the unclean spirits were cast out.”

Love. Healing. Help. Hope. The power of Christ to counter all troubles in all times—including the end of times. That is the safe harbor God wants for us in personal or public days of despair. That is the message with which the Book of Mormon begins, and that is the message with which it ends, calling all to “come unto Christ, and be perfected in him.” That phrase—taken from Moroni’s final lines of testimony, written 1,000 years after Lehi’s vision—is a dying man’s testimony of the only true way.

May I refer to a modern “last days” testimony? When Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum started for Carthage to face what they knew would be an imminent martyrdom, Hyrum read these words to comfort the heart of his brother:

“Thou hast been faithful; wherefore . . . thou shalt be made strong, even unto the sitting down in the place which I have prepared in the mansions of my Father.

“And now I, Moroni, bid farewell . . . until we shall meet before the judgment-seat of Christ.”

A few short verses from the 12th chapter of Ether in the Book of Mormon. Before closing the book, Hyrum turned down the corner of the page from which he had read, marking it as part of the everlasting testimony for which these two brothers were about to die. I hold in my hand that book, the very copy from which Hyrum read, the same corner of the page turned down, still visible. Later, when actually incarcerated in the jail, Joseph the Prophet turned to the guards who held him captive and bore a powerful testimony of the divine authenticity of the Book of Mormon. Shortly thereafter pistol and ball would take the lives of these two testators.

As one of a thousand elements of my own testimony of the divinity of the Book of Mormon, I submit this as yet one more evidence of its truthfulness. In this their greatest—and last—hour of need, I ask you: would these men blaspheme before God by continuing to fix their lives, their honor, and their own search for eternal salvation on a book (and by implication a church and a ministry) they had fictitiously created out of whole cloth?

Never mind that their wives are about to be widows and their children fatherless. Never mind that their little band of followers will yet be “houseless, friendless and homeless” and that their children will leave footprints of blood across frozen rivers and an untamed prairie floor. Never mind that legions will die and other legions live declaring in the four quarters of this earth that they know the Book of Mormon and the Church which espouses it to be true. Disregard all of that, and tell me whether in this hour of death these two men would enter the presence of their Eternal Judge quoting from and finding solace in a book which, if not the very word of God, would brand them as imposters and charlatans until the end of time? They would not do that! They were willing to die rather than deny the divine origin and the eternal truthfulness of the Book of Mormon.

For 179 years this book has been examined and attacked, denied and deconstructed, targeted and torn apart like perhaps no other book in modern religious history—perhaps like no other book in any religious history. And still it stands. Failed theories about its origins have been born and parroted and have died—from Ethan Smith to Solomon Spaulding to deranged paranoid to cunning genius. None of these frankly pathetic answers for this book has ever withstood examination because there is no other answer than the one Joseph gave as its young unlearned translator. In this I stand with my own great-grandfather, who said simply enough, “No wicked man could write such a book as this; and no good man would write it, unless it were true and he were commanded of God to do so.”

I testify that one cannot come to full faith in this latter-day work—and thereby find the fullest measure of peace and comfort in these, our times—until he or she embraces the divinity of the Book of Mormon and the Lord Jesus Christ, of whom it testifies. If anyone is foolish enough or misled enough to reject 531 pages of a heretofore unknown text teeming with literary and Semitic complexity without honestly attempting to account for the origin of those pages—especially without accounting for their powerful witness of Jesus Christ and the profound spiritual impact that witness has had on what is now tens of millions of readers—if that is the case, then such a person, elect or otherwise, has been deceived; and if he or she leaves this Church, it must be done by crawling over or under or around the Book of Mormon to make that exit. In that sense the book is what Christ Himself was said to be: “a stone of stumbling, . . . a rock of offence,” a barrier in the path of one who wishes not to believe in this work. Witnesses, even witnesses who were for a time hostile to Joseph, testified to their death that they had seen an angel and had handled the plates. “They have been shown unto us by the power of God, and not of man,” they declared. “Wherefore we know of a surety that the work is true.”

Now, I did not sail with the brother of Jared in crossing an ocean, settling in a new world. I did not hear King Benjamin speak his angelically delivered sermon. I did not proselyte with Alma and Amulek nor witness the fiery death of innocent believers. I was not among the Nephite crowd who touched the wounds of the resurrected Lord, nor did I weep with Mormon and Moroni over the destruction of an entire civilization. But my testimony of this record and the peace it brings to the human heart is as binding and unequivocal as was theirs. Like them, “[I] give [my name] unto the world, to witness unto the world that which [I] have seen.” And like them, “[I] lie not, God bearing witness of it.”

I ask that my testimony of the Book of Mormon and all that it implies, given today under my own oath and office, be recorded by men on earth and angels in heaven. I hope I have a few years left in my “last days,” but whether I do or do not, I want it absolutely clear when I stand before the judgment bar of God that I declared to the world, in the most straightforward language I could summon, that the Book of Mormon is true, that it came forth the way Joseph said it came forth and was given to bring happiness and hope to the faithful in the travail of the latter days.

My witness echoes that of Nephi, who wrote part of the book in his “last days”:

“Hearken unto these words and believe in Christ; and if ye believe not in these words believe in Christ. And if ye shall believe in Christ ye will believe in these words, for they are the words of Christ, . . . and they teach all men that they should do good.

“And if they are not the words of Christ, judge ye—for Christ will show unto you, with power and great glory, that they are his words, at the last day.

Brothers and sisters, God always provides safety for the soul, and with the Book of Mormon, He has again done that in our time. Remember this declaration by Jesus Himself: “Whoso treasureth up my word, shall not be deceived”—and in the last days neither your heart nor your faith will fail you. Of this I earnestly testify in the name of Jesus Christ, amen."

Laser Tag

We played all night laser tag last night.

It was so fun! I am exhausted and so sore, but it was worth it!

I really love playing laser tag. Usually I fall asleep during the rounds in between, but this time I didn't! I was pretty proud of myself. :) Also, no caffeine, no junk food, nothing. I definitely ate fruit, trail mix, pretzels, and drank a ton of water. Haha.

My legs hate me now.

Adventures!

I always have so much fun with my friends. :)

Today, Courtney, Tynj'a, Annelise, and I set up the trampoline at the Lofgran's. I definitely wish I'd taken a picture of us moving the frame. Tynj'a was almost up off the ground holding on to it!! Yes, we had to tip it to get it right-side-up. Haha.

Then we reverted back to elementary school after it was all together.

We had a good ol' fashioned butt war. :)

End.

Land of the Free, Home of the...Socialsts?

Everyone's entitled to their opinion.
Here's the deal: I'm pretty certain the founding fathers did not intend for this country to go so far downhill. In talking with my friend Wendel on Friday, he said something that really hit me: It doesn't matter who we vote for anymore, no one has our intentions in mind! It's all, "How can I boost my campaign; how can I help other countries; how can I make my paycheck and Congress' paychecks bigger?" He said that we aren't really even Americans anymore! We've mortgaged our country out to other countries -- mainly China; we might as well call ourselves Chinese!

What is this administration doing for US?? NOTHING! Yes, John McCain would not have been much better, but I voted, so I have the right to complain about this crap that Obama's pulling. Health care for all. Yes, I like that idea; however, making it a law that we have to have health insurance is going a little far. On top of that, I'm paying for health insurance for people who are in this country ILLEGALLY!!!! That's what really gets me going. Why the heck should I pay for their insurance when they could file the paperwork to get a green card and become legal citizens.

Not only that, I just flat out don't like him. I don't care what people say. I heard something so true in class today. Two of my classmates were talking in the hallway about all of this. One of them says,
"Hey, what would have happened in Obama was white?"
"John McCain would have won the election."

That is so true.

Oh, I also found the coolest song to describe how I feel. "Uprising" by Muse.

"Rise up and take the power back, it's time the fat cats had a heart attack. You know that their time is coming to an end; it's time to unify and watch our flag ascend! They will not force us; they will stop degrading us; they will not control us. We will be victorious!"

You know, this country was fought for. People died escaping a country they hated. It sucks that we have to have someone controlling out economy. How BIG of our president to decrease Congress' paychecks so that some of them make "only" a million or so. I'm so tired of our country being called a democracy when it isn't. I'm not blaming the downfall of our country -- the recent presidents of the past have had their hand in it, too, but he's the one that's ruining my future with my husband, and the future for our children.

Lame.

My Favorite Sound?

Do you really not know? :) Tyler's voice. Now keep with me here, okay? It's going somewhere.

I got to talk to him yesterday! It was probably the best conversation I have ever had in my entire life. We covered so many things that we've both been thinking about, and it felt like I had a huge weight be lifted. :) We laughed SO MUCH!! I haven't laughed that much in such a long time. I wanted to never get off the phone with him! It is wonderful to me how much he has grown. He genuinely loves the people of Rosamond. Especially Tony and Louise! They mean a lot to him.

He's still his same dorky self, though, and I love it!! We reverted back to some of our silliness for a little bit there. He said, "I love you every hour of every day." We went backward from there until I hit the nanosecond. I, in my ignorance, challenged him to beat that. Well today in an email, I got this: "I love you every picosecond of every second of every minute of every hour of every day of every week of every month of every year! Ha! :D I found out what is smaller than a nanosecond and its a picosecond :D I win!" He really makes me so happy!

Anyway, I really just wanted to express how happy I am with him! I can't wait to marry him and spend all eternity with him. :) He's an amazing person. My Heavenly Father blessed me by placing Tyler in my life.

Let's Get Ethical!

Every time I hear the word ethical, I think if that episode of The Office when Holly and Michael give the ethics seminar. Haha.

Let's get ethical, though.

On Thursday, I had a referral appointment with an orthopedic specialist at Children's. I was alright with going, because my awesome doctor, Wally, referred me to him Sweet. Whenever I get anxious, I read my scriptures to calm down. I was really freaking out about this appointment, because I've been told all the time that there's nothing that particular doctor can do for me, so they'll pass me off to their colleague. Augh! Alright so back to my story. I was anxious about this appointment, so I took my mini quad with me. I was in the waiting room reading my scriptures when the physician walked in. He said, "Wow, that's a good book!" and I smiled and said yes it was. He started talking to the girl that was job-shadowing him about what the appointment was about. He asked if I was Mormon, to which I replied yes.

Ethically crossing the line #1: "Mormons are polygamists, and the ones that aren't practicing polygamy sympathize with the ones that still are."

I turned to his nurse and shook my head to explain that, no, we are NOT practicing polygamy. I explained to the physician that that is not us, and if there are people calling themselves Mormons practicing that, they're from the RLDS church. He tried to start arguing with me on this, so I just shrugged my shoulders, looked at his nurse, and shook my head again.

He continued looking at my images on the computer, commenting here and there that I have a lot of them. I told him I know I do, but that's because I feel like I've been living at the hospital for a year! His nurse jumped in, trying to save the conversation, and said that I'm probably getting married next year. He asked if he was on a mission for our church, and I said, "Yeah. He's serving in the San Fernando valley in California."

Ethically crossing the line #2: "Were you born in the church, too?" "Yes, I was. I've been a member my whole life." "Double poison."

He continued about the church and their missionaries.

Ethically crossing the line #3: "Did you know that the church doesn't have missionaries in Israel because they believe that they are the lost 12th tribe? They won't ever send missionaries over there."

By this time I was resigned to what he was saying, because he wasn't diagnosing me, he wasn't talking to me -- he was talking to the chick job-shadowing him. He wasn't addressing the pressure that makes it feel like my spine is going to snap. He said that the problem isn't mechanical, and that there isn't anything he can do. He gave me three options, and I chose the TENS unit.

On his way out, he said this:

Ethically crossing the line #4: "
In the beginning, they didn’t have their heads on right. They were getting kicked out of every state, and they started that massacre."

Oh man. I was ticked. I'd started crying because I was so mad at him for not taking enough time to help me, and for doing nothing but crossing ethical boundaries (and breaking the law, I found out later that day). Needless to say I talked with my mom about all that happened, and she called the Children's administration board, and it's going on his record.

I have a follow-up with him in three months. Fat. Chance.

Everything I Wish I Could Say But Can't...

Once you were my friend. We had a lot of fun together, and in our group! I admit that I wasn't the greatest at writing, but I tried the best I could. I was SO excited for you to come home. I knew you would have grown, but I thought we could still hang out and laugh and be friends. Maybe that was a silly thought; maybe I was naive. I wish I could still talk to you and not have to watch what I say. I wish I still felt comfortable enough to text you whenever, or to invite you places. I tried for a while, but after being turned down so many times, what point is there?!
It stings that you won't give us the time of day anymore. It sucks that you won't respond when I try to talk to you. It's even worse thinking that I did something to offend you. I understand that missions are hard, and that people grow up a lot in two years; believe me, I've done my fair share of growing up, and I continue to. It shouldn't take months and months to adjust, though. We gave you space, we gave you time, and we were patient. I give up. I'm sorry, but I give up. I've spent my energy on trying to be friends only to have it be in vain. When my friend comes back from Texas, let me know and I'll be here.

A little of this and that :)

Life has been awesome lately! I love school so much. I've got seven classes, so I feel like I'm in a little over my head, but that will change once I get back into the swing of things!

Recently I went to the temple; I love it there so much! There's such a spirit of peace, and I always get answers to prayers every time I go!

Last night for FHE, our area 70, Elder R. Bruce Merrill, came to speak to us. Holy stink. I've never had such a wonderful family home evening before. I felt the spirit more than I have ever felt it. I'm really excited about everything that's happened.

I went down to Lisa's cousin's wedding reception this past weekend. Holy stink. I'm telling you that there are only like, two receptions I will go to for the next year or so. It's really hard to go to receptions, because I know who I'm supposed to marry; yes, I know. It's personal how I know, but I'm throwing it out there that there are absolutely no questions anymore, and I truthfully don't want any junk or grief about that. This is truly the first time I'm saying it out loud or anything to people other than those closest to me. I'm sure his parents know, and I know for sure that my mom knows, but it's not like we talk about it constantly. I'm just happy to be able to know. :) Anyway, the reception was really hard to be at; they looked so perfect together, and I'm super happy for them! :)

Just Lately

So...the last few days have definitely been a whirlwind. Spring break is supposed to be relaxing, but this was more up and go.

Wednesday, I had a cardiology appointment up at Children's in Seattle. That was fine, except Dr. Olson told me that my aorta's enlarged a millimeter. Granted, that really isn't much; my aorta's enlarged to 3.5 centimeters instead of the average 2-3. He was saying that if my aorta ever grows to 5 centimeters in diameter, they're going to have to think about doing an aortic root replacement, and maybe a mitral valve replacement, too. I know that probably won't ever happen, but just those ideas are really scary! I asked him about being able to start a family in a few years, and he said that should be fine. I'm definitely going to have to consult someone first, but I will most likely be given the green light on that, as long as I'm considered a high risk. I'm hoping my aorta doesn't grow anymore period, though.

Thursday I had my appointment at Children's in Bellevue with Dr. Krengal. Dang. Big surprise: they couldn't find anything wrong or the source of pain. So what'd they do? Refer me to another doctor. He tried to see if I wanted to take a new prescription. Heck NO! I'm so tired of just being given prescriptions or some other treatment. I want a solution. I came out of that appointment more frustrated than ever. To make that day worse, I got the results of my gluten intolerance test back, and it was positive. No more gluten for me, ever. I know that's not really a big deal to most people, but on that day, it felt like the end of the world. I'm trying to adjust to it. The best part of that day was that I got a great letter from the best boyfriend in the world who I love so incredibly much. :)

Oh, and I dyed my hair. It's light brown now. :)

Coolest belt-buckle ever! I want one. :) Never thought I'd find myself saying I wanted a belt-buckle, but this one is awesome.

All Things Shall Come to Pass

You know how sometimes things take forever to get where you wish they would be? Yep, that's definitely what happened.
Two years ago, an old boyfriend and I ended our relationship with the promise to remain friends. Obviously that didn't go as planned. For the longest time, he avoided me, and when we would be put into the same area, he'd flat out ignore me. Part of that was my fault, and I completely acknowledge that one. We broke up in like, January or something like that, and I started dating Tyler in May. During the summer, the three of us all worked together at KCDA. Awkward for me? No. For him? Yes. For Tyler Mallory? No. His point of view: I got the girl, and I'm happy. Anyway, from the time we broke up to the time he left on his mission, we exchanged maybe twenty words, and two-thirds of them came from me. About two weeks ago, we started talking again. He's serving his mission in Mexico right now, so we're communicating through email. It's still pretty new, but we're airing everything from the past that's been bottled up for the last two years. It's not like we're at each others' throats; not at all. We're both really sorry about how things went down, and grateful for this chance we have to start a friendship again. I'm not willing to date again, because I'm so happy with Tyler. I've never been happier where I am right now. :) He and I have agreed to sit down and talk about everything when he comes home. I'm definitely not willing to come out and say something like, "I'm so happy with my missionary!" I actually WANT to be friends with this guy. It's just...strange to be talking again, but in a good way. I'm excited to see if we can actually be good friends again, or if we'll just be cordial. I'm also hoping that he and Tyler can meet officially sometime, but that's a long way off.

The Auburn Friends

So I've been thinking about this for a while now, and I still don't know exactly how to phrase it, so bear with me. 'Kay, thanks. :)

Tyler and I have been dating for about two years now. When I first came around, things seemed a little bit tense. Tyler once told me that he thought it was because I wasn't Heather, and I was someone who wasn't in the "group". I don't know if that's true, and frankly, I don't care to know if that's true.

Basically I just want this to be out there...I really do like his group of friends. I felt so bad when he stopped hanging round with you all. I think part of that was for me, but I really know that he felt that he wasn't cared for all that much anymore, because he wasn't with someone from his regular group. On more than one occasion, I was even accused of "taking Tyler away from the group of friends that he's had for years". I really truly want the whole group of Auburn friends to know that I want to be friends with everyone. I have absolutely nothing against anyone, and truthfully, I think it's time that I try to reach out and be everyone's friend. I guess I've just been scared to, because I've thought this whole time that I wasn't liked -- again, that could be the case, and if it is, please don't tell me. Please just give me a chance, and I'm pretty sure that things would be okay. :)

Guys, I'm so sure that all came out wrong. Please don't take it that way. If it did rub you the wrong way, I apologize.
